What If Your Outdoor Furniture Was Born in a Volcano?

It begins deep beneath the Earth’s surface, where volcanic rock is formed over time. Through a heating process at approximately 1500°C, basalt is transformed into a high-performance material of exceptional strength and durability.

From Volcanic Rock to Continuous Fiber

In a controlled production process, basalt is heated to approximately 1500°C and drawn into continuous filaments. Unlike synthetic fibers, basalt requires no chemical additives during fiber formation. The result is a mineral-based material with high tensile strength, dimensional stability, and inherent resistance to environmental stress.

Engineered Structure, Not Applied Decoration

The basalt fiber is woven into structural forms where geometry and load distribution are carefully considered. The weave is not a surface treatment - it defines the architecture of each piece. Structural integrity and visual rhythm emerge from the same material logic.

This approach allows sculptural forms that remain lightweight while maintaining exceptional rigidity.

Precision Craftsmanship

Each element is shaped, assembled, and finished with meticulous attention to detail. Protective polyurethane coatings enhance durability while preserving the tactile character of the fiber. The process balances advanced material engineering with careful manual refinement.

Material as Identity

At ETNA DESIGN - material is not secondary to design. It determines proportion, curvature, and presence. The origin of the material - volcanic, mineral, elemental - remains visible in the final form.

From geological formation to architectural expression, basalt fiber enables outdoor furniture that unites technology, craftsmanship, and sculptural clarity.
