Sustainable enjoyment from Valais thanks to Piwi vines
Discover the future of winegrowing at the DIROSO Winery. Thanks to innovative, fungus-resistant grape varieties, our family business produces wines with a strong character.
Pioneering spirit in Valais: winegrowing in harmony with nature
The DIROSO winery in Turtmann is the driving force in Valais when it comes to natural viticulture with fungus-resistant grape varieties. These so-called Piwi varieties are the result of a natural cross between European noble varieties and robust ancient vines. The result: vines that are naturally resistant to fungal diseases and therefore require little or no treatment.
Sustainability as the top priority
As a small family business, the Baumann family cultivates around four hectares of vines from the Vispertal valley to Varen. They consistently adhere to ecological standards: all vineyards are covered with vegetation and herbicides are completely avoided. The traditional varieties are cultivated exclusively with organic methods, while the Piwi varieties enable almost residue-free production.
Exclusivity in a glass: the Mennas grape variety
A particular highlight in the range is the winery's own grape variety, "Mennas". This unique grape grows exclusively in the vineyards of the DIROSO winery and represents the innovative strength of the business. Whether it's the floral and fruity Johanniter or the spicy Chambourcin, DIROSO shows that sustainability and the highest wine quality can harmonise perfectly.
