A Flower with History and Character

Tulips are the undisputed stars of spring. Few flowers bring as much lightness, colour, and warmth into a home. Originally native to Central Asia, tulips made their way to Europe via the Ottoman Empire, where they quickly became coveted status symbols. In the Netherlands, they even triggered a full-blown tulip mania in the 17th century, at times being traded for more than gold. To this day, they retain an aura of something special.

Their colours speak a language of their own. Red tulips stand for passionate love, yellow tulips symbolise joy and friendship, white tulips represent purity and new beginnings, pink tulips convey admiration, and purple tulips are associated with elegance and esteem.

Freshly Cut Premium Tulips from Eastern Switzerland

That these messengers of spring do not have to come from Holland is proven by Rutishauser AG. At its own nursery in Züberwangen, Rutishauser has been cultivating premium tulips for many years, supported by modern technology. An innovative water-based growing system that works entirely without soil not only creates ideal growing conditions but is also particularly environmentally friendly. This is complemented by vertical farming, which makes efficient use of production space while ensuring consistently high quality.

Swiss tulips bearing the Suisse Garantie label stand for regional origin, sustainable production, and outstanding longevity. Freshness you can see and feel.

Care Tips for Longer-Lasting Freshness

To help tulips retain their beauty for as long as possible, a little care goes a long way. Place the flowers in a vase filled with clean, cold water and make sure no leaves are submerged. This prevents bacteria from forming and keeps the water fresh for longer.

Tulips thrive in cool environments and prefer bright, indirect light. A spot away from radiators and direct sunlight is ideal. Ripening fruit should also be kept at a distance, as the ethylene gas it releases causes flowers to age more quickly.

Cut the stems straight across and remove any leaves that might reach into the water. A straight cut slows further growth, helping the tulips maintain their shape for longer. Change the water regularly and trim the stems slightly each time. With this care, tulips typically stay fresh for around a week.

One particularly effective way to extend the life of tulips is to keep them cool overnight. When the vase is placed in a cool spot in the evening, the tulips close their petals and slow down their metabolism. Since tulips continue to grow after being cut and naturally turn towards the light, this method helps keep them fresh and beautiful for longer.
