Red Listed Fruit Varieties: Support fruit varieties threatened with extinction!

The Swiss foundation ProSpecieRara is committed to preserving endangered livestock breeds and cultivated plants. Of the more than 2,500 ProSpecieRara fruit varieties, 40% are on the Red List. These rarest varieties now only grow in one or two locations.

A variety is no longer considered to be under immediate threat if it grows in at least three different locations. We have not yet achieved this goal for many of our varieties. It is urgently necessary to plant more trees. ProSpecieRara organises propagation or planting material for interested parties in order to secure these varieties in the long term. Courses are offered to teach people about the propagation and grafting of fruit trees.

ProSpecieRara works together with a network of conservationists to preserve over 2,500 fruit varieties.

The non-profit organisation ProSpecieRara is committed to ensuring that the diversity of cultivated plants and farm animals survives and that no more varieties or breeds are lost in Switzerland. We rely on donations to help us preserve the more than 5,700 ProSpecieRara varieties. More information: www.prospecierara.ch/spenden

Giardina supports this project: when purchasing tickets at the Giardina ticket shop, you have the option of adding a donation to ProSpecieRara. Giardina covers the transaction costs for the donation, so that every cent of your donation goes to ProSpecieRara!
