Welcome to Kappel Monastery and Fahr Monastery
Monastery gardens have always been of particular importance. Vegetable and orchards served for self-sufficiency, and medicinal herbs were planted in the herb garden. The Kappel Monastery and the Fahr Monastery offer public and private tours for individuals and groups in their gardens.
There are times when retreating is the only right thing to do. Simply stepping away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Then you need a place where you can find peace and quiet. Perhaps somewhere a little out of the way, but not lonely, reduced to the essentials without being sparse.
Kappel am Albis Monastery, where 800 years of history meet modern hospitality, is such a place. The seminar hotel and educational centre of the Evangelical Reformed Church in the canton of Zurich offers over 76 hotel rooms and 18 seminar and meeting rooms, providing the perfect space for spiritual retreats, celebrations and conferences. The former Cistercian abbey is located in the pre-Alpine landscape of the Canton of Zurich, conveniently situated between Zurich and Zug. It is open to groups, individual guests, events and private celebrations.
Here, the power of centuries-old tradition is combined with modern hospitality and sensitivity for the sustainable use of creation.
We recommend that gardening enthusiasts and people looking for a break take a look at the monastery's website or simply visit our stand at Giardina to find out more.

Guided tour of the monastery gardens at Fahr Monastery
Gardening has always been cultivated at Fahr Monastery. Whether it's the provost's garden, the lively kitchen garden or the baroque cross garden – each one has its own unique charm. The guided tour of the monastery gardens and herb spiral with garden sister Beatrice Beerli is an inspiring experience for anyone with green fingers and a love of nature.
Monastery shop
The monastery shop invites you to linger and discover its wares. It offers delicacies from the monastery's own production, such as honey, herbal tea, herbal syrup, monastery doughnuts and meringues. There are also books from the legacy of the Benedictine nun Silja Walter and other authors with connections to Fahr Monastery.
The range is rounded off by writing and picture postcards, Laudato si' cards with inspirational texts, Laudato si' seed bags to promote biodiversity, unique items from the parament workshop and fine monastery wines.
