Why DNA-based traceability for olive oil?

Olive oil is one of the most common adulterated products, the normal consumer is unable to determine whether an olive oil is pure or adulterated with low-quality vegetable oils. Although the price and labelling are important indicators, they do not always reflect reality.

MITERA GmbH has been sellig the first DNA-certified extra virgin olive oils since January 2019. They are voluntarily analysed by an independent laboratory (BIOCOS). biocos.gr/testimonial/mitera/
